YOUTUBE - 1

I heard about
youtube from the news because of the content of some videos - such as violence, pornography and sex - but I never browsed the site. This free service, like many others on the net, is very useful if people use it appropriately because you can watch videos, movies, singers performing on stage, cartoons, past live events, make irony of politicians... I had a lot of fun in searching videos because I could listen to native speakers and it only took me a click of the mouse! I think that the main problem is the lack of regulation as everybody can upload them.

Net regulation is one of the most discussed issues nowadays and net industry has not drawn a conclusion yet because there are too many interconnecting factors coming into play. Think about the collision of national and local regulations all over the world, people's anonymity when publishing, difficulties in checking pages being published every second... I think that there will be no solutions or, better said, there will be an end to regulation.

What do you think about this topic?

Dear Alexandra,

I agree with you: YouTube is a good tool for improving our language skills and also to get in touch with a different culture.

Cheers,
tina

You're right, controlling and filtering so many videos is hard, but I hope someone will find a way to do it! We see almost everyday in the news that teenagers put videos filmed in class..some are terrible, but without this tool we would never know what happens in our schools. Like Tania said (and I agree) peolple should be more respectful and exploit technology cleverly! don't you think?

Dear Alex,
I think that you pointed out a very important matter. Net regulation should be established in order to avoid problems as the ones we are facing in these days. Obviously this will take a lots of efforts and probably it may involve economic implications as everything does.
I also agree on what you wrote about language learning. You Tube has many positive aspects as well.

Ciao Paris!!!! I agree with you when you talk about more regulation. I think our class is very mature because almost all have considered the dangerous effects of a wrong use of the net. I think that Internet and all its tools are really useful and I can't understand why mean people have to damage their use! Fortunately I read in some newspapers that web experts are calling for a code of conduct in the blogosphere. We can only wait for it but what is particularly important to be considered is the problem itself, I mean, the social problem. Teenagers that can shave during school lessons or have sex in the school toilets??!! What's going on!

I do agree with both of you (Tania and Elena) but I think that people will never be so clever to do things like that because the more stupid things are, the more people are interested in them!I'm argumentative I know...

Hi Alex,

I agree with you and share your ideas. I think the lack of regulation is a big problem, which is very very difficult to solve because the Internet is also International and different countries have different regulations. Moreover, there is an additional problem namely culture: 'being offensive' means not the same all over the world, in the sense that norms of conduct differ from one country to another... Finally, I think it will be difficult to find a regulation most of people agree with.

See you soon,
Susanne
